Sacred Stillness by the Sea

A Sacred Descent Where Time Walks Beside You

This is not a hike. It is a quiet return through time, led by stone and sea. The path to Ancient Karthea winds through untouched landscape, asking nothing but your presence. Each step down carries a stillness that softens the senses and opens something deeper. What waits at the end is not only ruins, but a moment of quiet meaning.

The Path Begins in Chavouna

This is not a hike. It is a quiet return through time, led by stone and sea. The path to Ancient Karthea winds through untouched landscape, asking nothing but your presence. Each step down carries a stillness that softens the senses and opens something deeper. What waits at the end is not only ruins,  but a moment of quiet meaning.

Follow the Ancient Stones

This is not a strenuous hike, but a steady descent with wide views of the Aegean appearing as you move. The path is part of an ancient network of trails on Kea, worn by time and shaped by myth. Along the way, you’ll pass old threshing floors, dry-stone walls, and the occasional goat path diverging into nowhere.Wear good shoes, bring water, and walk slow; this is not a place to rush.

Arriving at Karthea

What remains of Karthea greets you gently: Doric columns, the foundation of temples, fragments of a city that once looked out over the sea. You’ll find the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Athena, and a half-buried amphitheater. Even in ruin, there’s elegance here. The site is never crowded, which adds to its serenity. You can sit among the stones and hear the past, the waves, and your own breath.

Swim Below the Ruins

Just below the ancient city, a small bay awaits. There are no sunbeds or tavernas — only a stretch of wild beach and clear water. Many guests say this is one of the most peaceful swims they’ve had in Greece. Bring a towel and enter slowly. The seabed is rocky, but the water is pure.

Return in Silence, or Stay a While

Some prefer to turn back the same way, while others linger until the golden hour. The hike back is uphill and slightly more demanding, but just as scenic. You might want to stop halfway, breathe deeply, and let the quiet settle. This is what Karthea gives: not a dramatic reveal, but a slow, grounded unfolding of presence.

I’ve stayed in many villas, but this one felt different. It wasn’t about luxury for show, it was about comfort that let me finally switch off

Sofia Perez

I came in exhausted, thinking I just needed rest. What I found was space to breathe, gentle practices, and people who truly listened

Claire Dalton

The one-on-one sessions surprised me. They weren’t rushed or formulaic. It felt like every moment was tailored to what I needed that day

Anna K

The mornings were my favorite. Opening the shutters to nothing but sea and sky felt like the whole island belonged to me

Helena Schumer

The balance was just right. Time to myself, nourishing food, and guidance when I needed it. Nothing felt forced, and yet I noticed how much had shifted in me by the time I left. It was exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for

Elena Rynelods

I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I arrived. The place itself was so calming, and the retreat gave me space to let go of things I’d been carrying for too long. I left feeling lighter, as if a part of me had been gently reset.

I feel very determined to put my own health and wellness before the intense demands of my life. Julia Brock is not only an MD, but she is an intuitive healer, and she and her team of healers helped me set up a plan for re-entry that puts my health and well-being ahead of everything else.

I feel much more grounded and calm in my body, as a result of Julia’s insightful and loving treatments.

I had mastectomy surgery 5 months ago, and had been feeling somewhat fragile and self-protective in my new body. The loving kindness and hands-on healing I experienced at this retreat helped me so much.

For starters, the location is mindblowing. It takes place on the gorgeous, ancient island of Kea, where wind and sea start to heal one’s soul as soon as you step off the ferry. Life slows down.

I just returned from a truly life-changing week at Anasa Soma. I participated in a healing retreat for women recovering from breast cancer. I did not know what exactly to expect from this week-long retreat, and I was completely blown away. The healing I experienced in this spectacular environment exceeded all of my expectations.
